Man in Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run in East Hampton

Police looking for driver of Mazda 3 hatchback.

 

A Portland man is in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident in East Hampton early Saturday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred at about 3:28 a.m. when a vehicle, believed to be a Mazda 3 hatchback, was traveling north on Main Street and struck a bicyclist that was also traveling north on Main Street in the area of Edgerton Street.

The bicyclist, William Sigman, 24, of 32 Rustic Terrace, Portland, was struck from behind by the vehicle which fled the scene immediately, police said in a press release. Sigman was transported to Marlborough Clinic by East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance personnel. He was later flown to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar Helicopter and is in critical condition.

East Hampton Police believe the suspect vehicle may be a 2007-2009 Mazda 3 (see attached photo of 2007 model for reference) and urge citizens to take note of any vehicles of that type with front-end damage.
