Police: Woman Injured When Husband Rams Car Three Times on Easter

Bloomfield man charged with first-degree assault after allegedly telling spouse he “hears voices” and she needs to “stick by him.”

A 34-year-old Bloomfield man is facing criminal assault charges after a reported Easter day attack in which he rammed his wife's car three times, sending her to the hospital, according to Middletown Police.

On Sunday at 4:32 p.m., the report states, Gustavo Lopez of 4 Linwood Drive, Bloomfield, hit his wife's white BMW three times with his black BMW on Burgundy Hill Lane after a telephone conversation in which he admitted he "hears voices" and his wife needs to "stick by him no matter what."

The wife, according to police, had injuries to her shoulder and couldn't recall how or why the collisions happened immediately afterward.

Lopez told officers he has fuel problems with his car that causes it to speed forward when the gas pedal is pressed and the three strikes to her car were "an accident."

The reports details Lopez said the first time he hit her car was because he was blocking her car to prevent her leaving, the second hit was because the gas pedal had stuck. Upon a search, police say, they found a wooden baseball bat, black hoodie and blue latex gloves in Lopez's car.

The report says Lopez said, "I didn't mean to hit her that hard. I didn't mean to hurt her."

Police say he has been arrested twice in the past on domestic incidents with his wife.

At headquarters, police say, Lopez said the bat was for playing baseball with his 4-year-old son, the gloves for cleaning the fish tank and the car and the hoodie was a sweater he had just picked up at the dry cleaners.

He was charged with first-degree attempt criminal assault, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace. He was given an April 25 court date.

He has already been arrested twice before. What's going to stop him from killing her before he goes to jail?
