According to the Middletown Press, the man came to Middlesex Superior Court during his son's arraignment for charges of placing a fake bomb at East Hampton High School over the weekend.

The father of an East Hampton man charged with planting a fake bomb at East Hampton Middle School was arrested Monday after his son’s arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court

Stephen Doran, 50, the father of suspect Sean Doran, allegedly assaulted a Middletown Press reporter who was following the suspects and their families outside the courthouse, according to the Middletown Press.

Stephen Doran was charged with assault and criminal mischief, the newspaper reported.

The Middletown Press did not identify the reporter.

Sean Doran, 20, and co-suspect Kayla Sypek, 20, both appeared in the Middletown court after being arrested Saturday on charges that they planted a fake bomb at the middle school around 2 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

The incident forced a lockdown of the middle school and police had to call in a state bomb squad to X-Ray the package before determining it was fake.
