Second East Hampton Man Charged in Theft of Copper Wire

Arrest a result of investigation following 2011 incident.

 

East Hampton Police arrested Troy McIntosh, 28, of East Hampton on Friday for his role in the theft of copper wire in 2011.

According to police, McIntosh's arrest stems from the investigation of theft of copper ground wire from utility poles on North Main Street and Clark Hill Road last summer. He was charged with fourth-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.

Michael Poe, 36, of East Hampton, is a co-defendant in the case and is facing similar charges. His case is currently pending at Middlesex Superior Court.

McIntosh was held on $20,000 court-ordered bond and presented for arraignment at Middlesex Superior Court on Friday.

The arrests resulted from Officer Adam Brault and Officer Hardie Burgin investigating a citizen's complaint of suspicious activity at about 4:20 a.m. on Aug. 9. The officers discovered that Poe and McIntosh had discarded a pair of wire cutters, a forehead mounted spot light and about 20 pounds of copper ground wire nearby where the officers encountered them.
