State Police Enforcement Report: July 4 Holiday

Police handed out thousands of tickets for everything from speeding to talking on a cell phone.

State police made 35 arrests for driving under the influence this past July 4 holiday weekend and issued nearly 3,000 tickets for a variety of other violations. 

The holiday traffic, accident and violations count on state roads began on July 3rd starting at 12:01 a.m. and continued until midnight on July 7th.

Police reported no fatalities on state highways during the July 4 enforcement, though there were a total of 190 accidents involving 27 with injuries.

State police handed out 1,276, including 257 for violations of the state's seatbelt laws. 
 
Last year's July 4 holiday enforcement stats included 323 accidents, 45 DUI arrests and 1,059 speeding tickets, state police said.
