Traffic Stop in East Hampton Turns Up 300 Bags of Heroin

Driver and passenger are from Hartford.

What started out as a routine traffic stop by East Hampton Police on Sunday resulted in the discovery of 300 bags of heroin.

Officer Matthew Hanlon conducted the motor verhicle stop at about 3:15 p.m. on North Main Street near Sears Park.

The driver of the vehicle, Mildred Cuascut of Hartford, was found to be driving with a suspended license. Further investigation revealed that Cuascut, 40, also was wanted by Troop H in Hartford for violation of probation.

The front-seat passenger was identified as Luis Rodriguez, also of Hartford. Rodriguez, 35, was found to be in possession of 300 bags of heroin. Hanlon took Rodriguez and Cuascut into custody with the assistance of Officer David Gionfriddo.

Rodriguez was charged with possession of narcotics, 21a-279(a), and possession of narcotics with intent to sell, 21a-278(b). He was held on $50,000 bond.

Cuascut was charged with Violation of Probation, 53a-32, as well as motor vehicle charges. She was held on $10,000 court-set bond.

Both were scheduled to appear at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on Monday.
