Two Arrested in Lake Pocotopaug Burglaries

Suspects charged with nine counts of burglary.

Two East Hampton men, one of them a convicted felon, were arrested Wednesday in connection with burglaries at nine seasonal cottages on Lake Pocotopaug, local police said. 

Kevin Owens, 29, of 2 Bevin Ave., and Andrew Bonertz, 21, of 100 Colchester Ave., were each charged with nine counts of first-degree burglary, nine counts of third-degree criminal mischief, four counts of fifth-degree larceny and theft of a firearm, police said. Bonertz was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Bonertz is currently under probation. He was arrested in November of 2008 and charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary. In February of 2010 he was charged with third-degree burglary. He pleaded guilty in both cases. There are also several other charges currently pending against him.

Owens was held on a $50,000 bond. Bonertz was held on a $150,000 bond, police added. Both are scheduled for arraignment at Superior Court in Middletown on Thursday.
