Two Portland Firefighters Honored

Goff and Ghent recognized at Salute to CT's Bravest.

Portland Firefighters Tim Goff and Lieutenant Todd Ghent were honored Oct. 20 at the Connecticut District Exchange Clubs event titled Salute to CT’s Bravest.

Firefighters from 20 Connecticut towns were recognized for their commitment to public safety, fire prevention and acts of courage. Both Goff and Ghent were burned while responding to a reported propane leak which resulted in an explosion in January. Both men, with a combined total of 50 years of service, have returned to full active service and remain deeply committed to protecting the citizens of Portland. The Salute to CT’s Bravest was held at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville. The Exchange Club of Portland was among 18 Connecticut Exchange Clubs who participated in the event.

The Exchange Club of Portland is committed to ”Reinforcing American values, traditions and beliefs; Building leaders for today and tomorrow; Working to protect America's children from harm.”  Proceeds from Exchange Club fundraisers have supported the following local charities: Portland Fuel Bank, Portland Food Bank, Hospice, Middlesex Hospital Family Advocacy, Boys & Girls State Town-Tech Ed. Partnership and much more.
