Patch's Poll: Who Will Win the 2012 Presidential Election, Obama or Romney?

Now that the Democratic and Republican delegates have officially chosen their nominees, Patch wants to know: Who are you betting on?

It's official: With President Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Charlotte Thursday night, both the Republicans and Democrats have formally chosen their nominees for the 2012 presidential election. Let the real race begin.

A lot can change between now and Nov. 6: Gaffes, scandals or even major international news events could shift the dynamics of the campaign.

The latest Gallup Polls show registered voters preferring Obama to Mitt Romney by just one percentage point, 47 percent to 46 percent. A USA Today/Gallup poll taken just before the party conventions found American voters think Obama is more likeable, but trust Romney more to handle the economy.

Pundits have been busy for months handicapping the major-party candidates on various factors: incumbent advantage, fundraising clout, even religion.

Patch wants to know: Regardless of who you support for President, who do you think will actually claim victory in November?

Vote in our poll below, and let us know your reasoning in the comments.

I hope Romney wins but I fear Obama is slick enough to slip in again.
edmund dantes September 07, 2012 at 10:13 PM
I'm in agreement with Bob. On the record, this shouldn't be close, but it will be very, very tight. Plus, I'm seeing some hubris on the Republican side, not a good sign.

Romney is the only candidate with true business experience. He and Bain saved, Dunkin Donuts, Sports Authority, Dominos, Staples and many others that are thriving today. Other than ACORN, Barry has never run a lemonade stand. He also put 186 people in bad mortgages in Chicago despite they all not being qualified and almost ALL filed bankruptcy. As an attorney he fought for minorities to get sumprime mortgages that didn't deserve them. He has contributed to this mess as much as Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank and all the others that were funded by Fannie/Freddie. Check the facts yourself.

I agree wholeheartly with Clete. Obama (Barry) and his ilk has run this country into a ditch and their political platform has repudiated God, Israel and the centrist beliefs of this country. We are in an extremely dangerous time and don't need a socialist at the helm.

Thank you John!

If the media -just one major network starts airing all the things obama stands for, Romney would not lose a state. A landslide win for Romney. Just one media outlet has to stop suppressing information and stop lying for Obama. I hope Conn sees the light. They should see that Lieberman already is changed.

The first debate will tell more

I'm not a huge fan of either candidate, but I'd say the lesser of two evils would be Obama.

by a wide margin, it's hysterical and sad to see seemingly intelligent people say things like Obama drove us into a ditch Ummmmmmm.........W DROVE US INTO A DITCH Obama hasn't gotten us out logic dictates that the CAUSE IS NOT THE CURE repubs then counter with "it's not important how we got here" because it was their party that destroyed the economy it's all baby high school ego bull, you have to wonder about a group of people who would vote for a scum that refuses to show his tax returns because clearly he like other large corporations and ceo's pay no taxes and get a refund and a christian exrtremist side kick, just to prove that they were not wrong for blindly supporting W and Cheney while they ripped us off and illegally invaded a country while letting the perp of 9/11 go scott free you really have to wonder............just what plain of reality are they in
Robin Hood September 09, 2012 at 01:49 PM
I like to use this analogy when trying to teach people about the last 12 years. Say your nation is your car. In 2000 you took your car that was running great to the Repub garage, they screwed it all up an ran up a huge bill, so in 2008 you brought your car to the Dem garage, they didn't fix everything the Repub garage screwed up and handed you a bill but say if you hang in there they will eventually fix it, it was in very bad shape when they got it. So in 2012 you'd take your car back to the Repub Garage?? Really???? You wouldn't take it to the Independent Garage, the Green Garage, the Libertarian Garage or someplace else??

With the advent of the GOP creating Fauxnews everything has been a War ON something, its complete baby high school bull, these are the people who bully people, arrogant snobs, putting other people down to make themselves seem superior, I actually listened to Rush 25 years ago, he was actually for the people, then he changed, he became a mouthpiece for hate and segregation, not B&W, but an Us VS Them kind of thing, its a Divide & Conquer mentality, they want us to keep fighting amongst ourselves while they take more, they have convinced 45% of the US that S/S and Medicare are killing us and must be cut, they are suckered, what IS costing us is many large corporations have rewritten our tax codes and laws over the years, tweeking them, they are now at the point where many not only pay 0, zip, nada, taxes into the system, they take out of it in rebates, imagine if we paid no taxes and got a rebate check, then factor in that the rich who run these corporations also pay no taxes and get a rebate too, according to my math this is costing 5-10 trillion a year--- SCOTUS says corporations have the same rights as humans, well they can live under the same laws too-- http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/11/03/360185/30-corporations-no-taxes/ Robme is cut from that cloth, that is why he refuses to release his taxes. I think intelligent people have good reason to not vote for Robme, I can't find one valid one to vote for them, I honestly think it is all ego.

Progressives like to rewrite history. If they ran on their records, they would never be elected. Obama ran as a moderate, we all know he is no moderate. Back to the ditch theory of Robin, if you knew why we got to where we are instead of blaming everyone but Obama, we would all be in better shape. Under the Clinton adminstration the democrats felt everyone should own a home. Sounds great! No invcome verification, no proof of income etc. The Tech bubble which helped the Clinton administration was unraveling. Bush inherited a mess: 9/11 hit. Tech burst. Stock market hit. The Bush adminstration tried to reign in Fannie and Freddie but were blocked by democrats, Barney Frank saying we were in good shape, no worries!? The house bubble burst. I know Bush's fault. Did Bush blame Clinton? Let's remember who dug the ditch! I lived thru it, didn't live in an alternate universe then and don't now. Try getting your info from other places not the same places that reinforce your ideology.

I am puzzled that anyone could want four more years of Obama. We tried everything he wanted, the bailouts, the Solyndras, and where are we? It's getting worse now, not better. All short term thinking, no long term solutions. I take it none of you Obama supporters have kids coming out of college now. I have four, and none could find any work in Connecticut. They did well, graduated in four years, had good grades, and couldn't even get interviews, let alone offers, in this state. Same with their friends, they tell me. Best prospects for young people now seems to be Texas. Where they respect and honor private business, unlike CT. I am so tired of the no-growth, tax-and-spend-and-tax Democrats. We are just a few years from Bridgeport and Hartford turning into Detroit, thanks to their idiotic policies. I know many more people who would get out of this decaying state if only they could sell their houses for what they paid for them. They are anchored. BTW, the subprime mortgage crisis was not Bush's fault. He tried to stop it early and was blocked, notably by our own Chris Dodd, who had received a sweetheart mortgage of his own from one of the chief culprits. Dodd left the Senate to avoid the investigation into that chicanery.
Pro Death September 09, 2012 at 04:18 PM
Right on edmund, the more they spend or to be politically correct "handout" the larger the cancer in the heart of the cities get. Middletown for instance will become worse than Hartford in ten years if things keep snowballing the way they are. I truly believe the Democrats will never address this issue in fear of loosing the bulk of their votes on election day.

How can anyone make viable comments about the upcoming US Presidential election??? It has already be decided who the face of the free capitol world will be for the next four (4) years...with SCYTL counting the votes why waste the time in debating the individual preference of a candidate. It's a done deal...those which believe there is a legitimate political election unfolding everyday are living in an era of the past. Connecticut is one of the fourteen (14) states which has signed up for SCYTL to tabulate the votes. This was done back in April 2012...Our country's denizens have been programm'd for many years to believe the United Staes of America is govern'd by a two (2) party system/machine...when we all understand that our country has out grown that system and that we are an Empire (and have been since the turn of the 20th century; in the time of Teddy Rex) we as a people will be able to come together again and be on the same page. But until then, there will be much back biting, name calling (which I believe to be quite jejune), malcontent, anger and let's not forget hatred directed towards our neighbors with a different mind set. Our Empire is far to big for just ONE person to pull the strings of operation... "It is not the person who votes that we shall be concerned with...but the person who COUNTS the votes that we will contend with." -Russian Staesman --Good Day O' Robin Hood...it's PLANE of reality; not, plain of reality...thanx

Make-a-pt...I don't believe it was UNDER the Clinton administration, but Over and on top of Clinton's term which Alan Greenspan and a few other untouchables directed the laissez faire messiness of the housing credit bubble...borrow-spend-borrow...without concrete collateral...takes us all the way back to the Glass-Segel act of 1933...so many folks do not understand the echoing repercussions of Excutive Orders and how long those Orders vibrate through the lives of history. What Reagan did, paid off for Clinton. Clinton selling our blood-sweat-and tears to China (using Wally-World as their outlet) is now reverberating through our economic stabilty at present...It usually takes 5-10 yrs before the economy can truthfully submit to how they have influenced the times. What helpfulness or damages have been done.

SOLYNDRA? Did Anybody ever hear of this company? Who is Solyndra?
Klair Waters September 10, 2012 at 02:14 AM
George Kaiser is the key to unlocking the Solyndra Gate. Dr. Chris Gronet has friendly ties with Mr. Kaiser and Goldman Sach' Mr. Rubin. This is a political saga and tax payer nightmare which has been raging since 2006...well the public lies didn't really start hitting the fan until 2008. I've been watching this blatant act of robbery unfold on a monthly bases. I was doing the research on Solyndra before it announced it's bid for an IPO...basically Solyndra was and is still being used as the $$$ medium between Goldman Sach and The Obama Administration. No wonder why they pulled the bid for the IPO...If shares in Solyndra had been traded on the open free market, every US taxpayer would have been an accomplice to some sort of theft crime...Ponzi scheme??? Plain robbery in my limited book. Whatever the crime may be...all involved have sold their souls for $$$. How to siphon off taxpayer's $$$s 101. So sad in what Greed has done to so many Souls.

Edmund: I wish there were more who would write their frustrations down. People are mostly followers. If you could start a group, it becomes a town of support. Connecticut is on top five list of "Taxes". Real Estate taxes levied on your Homes is why I maintain "WE DO NOT OWN OUR HOMES". We , the people have Become the "NEW SLAVES" for Government workers. Pure-Plain and Simple to understand. All our homes are Rented from the Government as they continue to raise the rent each year. Do you know what I mean.? They will wipe you dry until "Freedom" to buy what you want is Gone.
Hansa Junchun September 25, 2012 at 03:19 PM
There's an "I don't know" button which is far better than other patch polls, but where's the "I don't care" or "It doesn't matter which of them wins, we're all doomed, doomed, DOOMED!" button? Listen, forget about this useless Presidency. Focus on punishing the people who broke our economy, stripped its assets, and shipped our jobs and future to Asia in exchange for cheap plastic landfill. Where is the righteous indignation at the failure of our legislators, like the unspeakable servant of multinational corporate interests, Rosa DeLauro? How can people watch Congress recess without fulfilling its Constitutional duties and not demand their removal from office? Why does Rosa DeLauro and her pals get re-elected every election only to sink us deeper and deeper? End this pathical joke now: throw Rosa out of office, and let's get rid of Larsen, Himes, Courtney, and every other wretched incumbents at the same time! Cleansing that cesspool of utter corruption is the first step to seeing some change. All it takes is indignation and action!

H. J. Two (2) comments: First; SCYTL (scytl.com), is an operational definition in answering the WHY? do they continue in being re:elect'd. Second; a basis for a foundational cleansing to be most effective, with positive affectional properties begins with: ( http://thewordpress.com ) search for: "WHO CONTROLS AMERICA" or, ( http//thezog.wordpress.com ) -the answer to every question regarding "who is who" and which entities literally contol how we breathe, eat and sleep...then it becomes as Hegel quoted,"...the discovery of something new is only a History revealing itself." It's a shame, that sometimes, Emerson's revelation concerning conception vs. perception can become very distort'd when a person adds personal sensitivities to the factual/truth seeking equation. The qoutient becomes biased and ambiguity reigns supreme. The two(2) sites listed; if perchance a body is unfamiliar with their existence, will enhance and clear the fog of ambiguity which is shaking society into a perpetual state of confusion, anger and chaos.
