Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

Obama won Connecticut, in a race that was called early.

Obama’s performance in Connecticut was not surprising on a night when Democrat Chris Murphy soundly defeated Republican Linda McMahon in a race that analysts had been calling very close.

Thank You Daniella. I think it might work now.

Thanks for clarifying Robin. One man destroyed CT. WOW As for we WERE in debt. You need to get a clue with all the underfunded state pensions out there, we've only just begun our fiscal woes.
Bill B. November 10, 2012 at 08:05 PM
And trust me RH, I get get the whole Corporate Welfare System. All the CO.'s you mention and more give money to both sides of the aisle. Let's re-vamp the tax code from ground zero and call that ulta-progressive. This has been happening for decades not just since W.
Daniella Ruiz November 10, 2012 at 08:14 PM
so, peter, you're saying, it's all theirs to do with what they please? you don't take any responsibility from here on? are you throwing up your hands in disgust or throwing down the gauntlet for them (whoever they are) as a challenge? 'let's be clear" (he he, i love that Obama phraseology) , we's all in this mess together, like it or not, and handing it (the mess) off as if it was theirs to begin with is just totally radical! but, maybe its not such a mess if you look at it from a wealthy scions point of view, they seem to have no qualm's about raking in ever more of what's left of the loose change for their own private pile, they will continue, just as always, we just keep giving it to them. they are too worried they might lose a few million/billion here and there, as if wounded, bleeding to death, on the brink of poverty. pity sakes! imagine that, we should all be worried about them now shouldn't we?? for many, there is no other standard operating procedure other than taking and not giving back.

An induction. Who knows what truth after all? Then you go about quoting dead white guys? How passe. How gauche.
Kaptainsteve November 10, 2012 at 09:37 PM
First off, Obama inherited GW's mess. Second, change takes time. Third, you are selfish, greedy, paranoid, live in a cave, get all your info from faux news while wearing a tin foil hat. Finally, there is enough wealth in the is country for everyone and the wealthiest 1% need to pay their fair share and that includes those who make over $250K per year. But most of all, you are right, I don't believe a word of what I've just said and these are all the built-in and ready to go come-backs we will hear for the next 4 years by the collectivists who believe individuals exist to serve their every whim, will and need. These passionate commies believe in nothing but enslaving their fellow man to their idea of utopia whether you like it or not. You see, you can't get everyone to go with their plan, so they must, at some point, use real force, the threat of force, enact force, jail, enslave and then murder as this is where this pattern of impletmenting collectivism always goes, every time it's ever been imposed on a large scale on a large country. Buckle up, the ride is not gonna get any smoother for the foreseeable future.

OOOOHHHHHHHH ...Good one, Maria!
Kaptainsteve November 10, 2012 at 09:40 PM
...and isn't it ironic that the "forward" slogan Obama used in the picture is the same the Communists have used many times before in history? Why anyone believes that this story is going to end up any different than all the rest is beyond comprehension... http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/apr/30/new-obama-slogan-has-long-ties-marxism-socialism/
Kaptainsteve November 10, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Don't forget that hidden in Obamacare is a new (apprx.) 4% sales tax on all home sales over 250K... This will hit nice and hard like a rock between the eyes when the young naive Obama voters go to buy their first house...
Chris Griffin November 10, 2012 at 09:43 PM
"... and infer that MY posts were ugly- So I asked you HOW so ? I have not launched a personal attack on anyone in this discussion...." Quote from Rachel earlier in this string. @ Guess you spoke to soon Rachel. Eventutally the true colors show themselves.

Congratulations to the Democrats and Young People... and some republicans apparently... Congratulations to the Democrats and Young People and some republicans and thank you. If you look at the numbers some republicans did vote for President Obama. It was very encouraging Tues night to see swing state after swing state declared for President Obama and colored blue. Congratulations to the Democrats and Young People and some republicans we all sent a message Tuesday night.

'Don't forget that hidden in Obamacare is a new (apprx.) 4% sales tax on all home sales over 250K...' Nope! More Faux News... Read -> http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/realestate.asp
REVMAN November 10, 2012 at 11:19 PM
I too want to congratulations the young people not for re-electing Obama but for getting jobs and keep up the (good) work as we need you to pay your fair share of income taxes ,social security and medicare taxes to keep our economy running and don't forget to buy a house or two and lots of cars. I know I did,and now I can sit back and just think how hard it will be for you.
Kaptainsteve November 10, 2012 at 11:49 PM
@A Guy Who Can't Read, First, you have attributed this to Faux News so show me a link or where on "Faux news" this comes from? If you can't, you've just made another unsubstantiated accusation. Second, you AND Snopes are wrong to say that this tax does not exist as there is CLEARLY a 3,8% sales tax on home sales valued at over 250k. The bill can be read here; http://www.healthcare.gov/law/resources/authorities/section/1402-unearned-income-medicare-contribution.pdf . Snopes, as well as yourself (and all other lying collectivists) are not telling the truth when you claim that this is false. Snopes hides behind the fact that it only applies to those families who have higher than 250k joint income (and individuals over 200k). But, this DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE TAX DOESN'T EXIST! It's there, READ THE BILL! http://www.healthcare.gov/law/resources/authorities/section/1402-unearned-income-medicare-contribution.pdf Third, this new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income. Fourth, The tax is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2013 and when it does the government will still levy a 2.9 percent Medicare payroll tax on all wages, with half (1.45%) paid by the individual and half by the employer, thus DOUBLE TAXING CITIZENS FOR MEDICARE! http://cnsnews.com/news/article/under-obamacare-medicare-double-taxation-begins-2013 Guy, you and Snopes are full of malarkey and you, I and everyone knows it.

This is just what the powers that be want. They want us fighting amongst ourselves so we won’t notice that it’s business as usual in Washington. If you really want to change things, how about picking a cause, any cause and going out and doing an old fashioned petition drive? You know, gathering actual signatures or forward this message to all your friends. Democrats, Republicans, Librarians, Independents, it doesn’t matter, there’s a long list of important issues that need to be addressed, so there’s something for everyone. Term limits Campaign reform (time and spending limits on campaigning, over-turning citizens united and getting rid of super pacs) Corporate welfare Tax reform Education reform Rebuilding our infrastructure Taking care of our Veterans Mandatory voting Regulating Wall street Pollution reform Energy independence Jobs with real living wages….. It doesn’t matter what your cause is, just do something and stop pointing fingers at the other guys. Government is supposed to work from the bottom up, not the top down. If enough people stand up and get involved, the politicians will have to take notice and if they don’t, vote them out of office. Find your representatives and demand real change! http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml

I don't understand why Republicans are so upset about Obama's re-election. He will cut corporate tax rates from 35% to 28%, will cut social security and medicare and medicaid, will cave in to Boehner, and will probably only obtain a very nominal increase in the tax rate on billionaires. I don't think any Republican in Berlin has anything to worry about.

Jane, where in the world do you come up with this stuff? You remind me of my mom. I like her energy, she works hard at the issues, but really is confused at best. she hears something and believes it. Keep posting Jane, I'm enjoying your thoughts.

Dean, they are not regulating womens' vaginas, they are mearly saying that taxpayers should not have to pay for the pill.

Noah, It's difficult to pay attention to your post when you write with the attitude and sarcasm of a middle schoolers. Your points are overshadowed by your goofiness.

Gene, while i agree with some of your post, Hussein had wmd's. He tried them out on small villages in the north and killed many. we gave him plenty of time to hide what he had, just like what is happening in Iran today. FEMA, is building camps, as a friend of someone on the inside circle, these camps are being built and designed to hold people, as the govt. fears a breakdown in civility in years to come. lastly, my taxes have gone up quite a lot in the past sewveral years. Where do you live that has not seen a rise in taxes?
farm guy November 11, 2012 at 06:02 AM
What does it say when roughly half of the citizen do not agree with the President?
farm guy November 11, 2012 at 06:06 AM
I agree with Maria. I know of a friut company where the mom (millionaire) claims all the income, pays her adult kids under the table and they collect food stamps and use the tax payer funded Husky health plan.
farm guy November 11, 2012 at 06:27 AM
Maria, of course conservatives worry about money. That's the incentive to go out and work hard and once you've done that, you don't want to give it away so easily. if those on the left (not all lefties) worked hard for their money instead of getting freebies, they might feel the same way. It really is a point of view based on perspective.
farm guy November 11, 2012 at 06:33 AM
Am I missing something, Chris? What's the message that the winning 50% would like to tell the losing 50%? We had a few more vores that you. I can't seem to see another valid message.
REVMAN November 11, 2012 at 10:44 AM
FARM GUY WRTOE__"I agree with Maria. I know of a friut company where the mom (millionaire) claims all the income, pays her adult kids under the table and they collect food stamps and use the tax payer funded Husky health plan. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE ANY OF IT BECAUSE--The new IRS Whistleblower statute gives anyone with information about large-scale tax underpayments, including accounting errors, tax fraud or evasion, a significant financial incentive to report it. The IRS must give you up to 30% of any money they collect based upon your information. AND YOUR WON'T COLLECT????
