East Hampton Recognized for Financial Reporting

Highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded last month to East Hampton by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The award was given to the town's finance department for being primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.

Town Manager Mike Maniscalco not only pointed to Finance Director Jeff Jylkka, but to all who played a role as the reason for the recognition.

"It's an act of himself, the staff and finance commission, through their hard work and efforts to ensure the town has a good working budget, a good financial plan ... that's what they're recognizing," Maniscalco said.

The town's CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to have met the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
