[UPDATE] Referendum on $52 Million EHHS Renovation Tuesday

Voters should head out to the polls Tuesday to vote on the proposed renovation plans.

Tomorrow East Hampton residents will head to the polls to decide the fate of the proposed $51 million renovation of East Hampton High School.

The town was put on notice by a regional accreditation agency that the school's accreditation was in jeopardy due to deficient science labs. From there the school building committee developed a $42 million program to renovate and restructure the interior layout of the schools, with an additional $10 million in engineering and financing costs.

About half the costs of the high school plan would be paid for with a 52 percent matching grant from the state.

The school building committee is racing a June 30 deadline to get the grant application into the state to get funding for this year.

Under the "renovate as new" proposal the school would essentially be gutted and rebuilt. Even the grounds would get an overhaul with a new parking and driveway design.
