Sarahina for Town Council

'We have seen the damage that can be done when the special interests of a few are put before those of the whole community.'

Proud to Serve

My name is Angela Sarahina (most of you know me as Angie) and I am running as a Chatham Party candidate for Town Council. This was not a decision that I took lightly or made overnight. I spent a long time deciding how I could best serve our community and I believe that the best way to represent the people of East Hampton is as a member of the Town Council.

I am the mother of three grown children and the grandmother of an active 10-year-old boy. My roots in East Hampton extend back four generations to my great-grandparents who were business owners in town for many years as well as my grandmother who owned the Belltown Cleaners. I am a veteran of the USAF where I learned the trade of jet engine mechanics. I also have a BS in Criminal Justice.

I have been involved in town politics for many years and have attended many different meetings. I have educated myself about the nature of our various boards and commissions and have studied their authority and regulations. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, you can find me at a Town Council meeting and like the other boards and commissions, I have educated myself about the duties and responsibilities of the Council, the Charter and our Ordinances.

Last year, when the laws that govern our town were being broken (illegal removal of the Police Chief), like many of you, I became involved and together we righted a wrong. This year, while the police department is still being targeted by some Town Council members, you can be sure of a couple of things: Due process is being followed pertaining to the two Sergeants who have been in trouble (handled by the Town Manager, Town Labor Attorney, Police Union and Chief of Police). And while the present Local Police Union President did turn in a petition signed by 10 or 11 officers asking for a Sergeant to be reinstated, the Union President misrepresented those same officers when he stated that they were being “bullied and threatened.”

We have seen the damage that can be done when the special interests of a few are put before those of the whole community. We, as taxpayers and residents, deserve better. We deserve to be listened to and to have a voice in our community. We shouldn’t be paying the price of bad leadership.

The Chatham Party has a great slate of individuals running for Town Council, Board of Education, Board of Finance and Zoning Board of Appeals. I am proud to be part of this slate because like me, the other candidates care about our entire community and its people.

So on November 8th, vote Row C; vote Chatham Party. You have seen what one person can do when backed by the community. Now it is time to show you what a Chatham Party majority will do. Please vote for me and my fellow candidates. We will put our “community first, not politics as usual.”
