Voter Registration Deadline Extended by Governor

East Hampton and Portland residents have till Monday at noon to register.

The power outages caused by the snowstorm have forced the governor to extend the deadline for voter registration almost a week.

Gov. Dannel Malloy signed an executive order that extended the deadline for voter registration in this upcoming election until Monday at noon.

In a press conference Monday night, Malloy assured the public that a snowstorm would not stop people's ability to register to vote.

“The severity of the power outages and other damage from this past weekend’s snow has the potential to disenfranchise thousands of Connecticut voters who are without electricity and even unable to leave their homes,” Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said.

Registrars of voters will be in their office on Monday till noon.
