Weichsel Hopes to Return Nov. 21

Interim Town Manager has been recovering from surgery.

Barring a setback, East Hampton Interim Town Manager John Weichsel has targeted his return to work for Nov. 21, Acting Interim Town Manager Anne McKinney confirmed on Wednesday.

Weichsel, who took over May 2 after Bob Drewry stepped down from the same role, has been out while recovering from surgery.

McKinney has served in his place since Sept. 27, the same day Weichsel went in for surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Initially it was thought the former Southington Town Manager could be out for as long as three months.

McKinney has been in regular contact with Weichsel, keeping him informed on the work she has been doing and the issues before the town. She said Weichsel "has given his blessing on everything."

"I hope I have made a difference," said McKinney, who has every intention on following through on the work she has started until Weichsel returns.

Among them, completing her meetings with all department heads and conducting a meeting concerning the town's emergency response during and after storms such as Tropical Storm Irene and the October snow storm.

"With the effort of everyone, I think we can be more prepared." McKinney said.

Attempts to schedule the meeting were frustrated by the snow storm two weekends ago, but McKinney hopes to hold it soon, perhaps Nov. 17.
