Williams for Board of Education

'I want to represent you and add your thoughts and ideas to the board's discussions.'

I would like to take this time to introduce myself to you. My name is Carol Williams and I am running for the Board of Education in East Hampton as a member of the Democratic Party. I have lived in town for 20 years and love our town. I am so thankful to have raised my two children in such a caring town where neighbors help neighbors and people look out for each other.

Both of my children have done extremely well in the East Hampton school system. My son is currently attending UConn and my daughter is a senior in the high school. I am grateful to the outstanding education that they both received and I feel they are prepared to face the challenges that come after graduation.

I have taught in South Windsor for 16 years as an elementary teacher. As an educator, I know it is important for the community to get involved. I have attended BOE meetings for several years on a fairly regular basis. I think it is time that I step forward and become part of this wonderful group of people who work so hard to make our educational system the best it can be.

One area that I would like to improve is communication between the public and the board members. Too often I am the only community member in the audience at the meetings. I believe this is because people are unaware of how their input can make a difference in decisions that the board makes. As a member of the BOE, I would seek out more community involvement. I would be sure to write more letters to the editor asking for feedback on different topics so that the community could contact the board with their opinions and suggestions. I want to represent you and add your thoughts and ideas to the board’s discussions. I am also committed to working with the Board of Finance and the Town Council to address the needs of the school system in a fiscally responsible manner.

I would welcome the opportunity to speak to you in person and hear your thoughts, ideas and concerns. I will be at the Democratic Headquarters Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Please stop by, have some coffee, and say hello.

Thank you and good luck to all the candidates running. I would be honored to have your support and vote on Election Day, November 8.

Sincerely,

Carol Williams
