Connecticut Broadcasters Association Accepting Scholarship Applications

Willimantic — Looking toward a career in the broadcasting industry? The Connecticut Broadcasters Association (CBA) is accepting applications for its 2012 Scholarship Awards. Applications are available online at www.ctba.org and must be received no later than Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Up to $100,000 in scholarship grants will be presented in this year’s program. Scholarships will range from one-year grants of $2,500, to the $5,000 “Nelson Brown Scholarship”, to the “Paul K. Taff Scholarship,” which awards a total of $10,000 in grants over a four-year period. Over the last seven years alone, the Connecticut Broadcasters Association has awarded close to $400,000 in scholarship funds and member stations have donated $2.3 million in public service time to publicize the program to prospective applicants.

To be eligible, a candidate must be:

· A Connecticut resident;

· Pursuing a career in broadcasting, communications, marketing, engineering, or electronics;

· Attending or planning to attend any in-state or out-of-state university, college, 2-year community college or technical college; and

· Entering their first, second, third or fourth year of college – this includes high school students who plan to graduate in June 2012.

Awarding of scholarships is based on the basis of need and/or demonstrated talent. Considered will be the individual’s broadcasting goals, current academic average, extra-curricular activities involving the electronic media, need and recommendations from faculty, employers and others and/or on the basis of need. Financial need documentation is required.

Scholarship applications, with all requirements completed, must be submitted via the U.S. Postal Service mail and received no later than Saturday, March 17, 2012. Applications may be downloaded at www.ctba.org.

Since its establishment in 1955, the Connecticut Broadcasters Association has been a respected industry leader in legal, governmental, education and community issues on both the State and National levels. Members include broadcast TV stations, radio stations, vendors and companies with a business interest in broadcasting, educational facilities, and anyone with a personal interest in broadcasting. Why exclude the crime scene photos? If those were released you would see some real gun legislationRead More passed when people saw what those bullets did to those little children. The only unconstitutional laws passed so far are the restrictions the NRA has managed to get passed that make it difficult for the government to even trace stolen weapons. When I was young the NRA taught us how to properly handle weapons. Now the NRA is more concerned with keeping their high paying jobs by feeding their members misinformation. If you are a hunter and need more than one bullet to fell your prey, you need target practice.
