Willimantic — Looking toward a career in the broadcasting industry? The Connecticut Broadcasters Association (CBA) is accepting applications for its 2012 Scholarship Awards. Applications are available online at www.ctba.org and must be received no later than Saturday, March 17, 2012.
Up to $100,000 in scholarship grants will be presented in this year’s program. Scholarships will range from one-year grants of $2,500, to the $5,000 “Nelson Brown Scholarship”, to the “Paul K. Taff Scholarship,” which awards a total of $10,000 in grants over a four-year period. Over the last seven years alone, the Connecticut Broadcasters Association has awarded close to $400,000 in scholarship funds and member stations have donated $2.3 million in public service time to publicize the program to prospective applicants.
To be eligible, a candidate must be:
· A Connecticut resident;
· Pursuing a career in broadcasting, communications, marketing, engineering, or electronics;
· Attending or planning to attend any in-state or out-of-state university, college, 2-year community college or technical college; and
· Entering their first, second, third or fourth year of college – this includes high school students who plan to graduate in June 2012.
Awarding of scholarships is based on the basis of need and/or demonstrated talent. Considered will be the individual’s broadcasting goals, current academic average, extra-curricular activities involving the electronic media, need and recommendations from faculty, employers and others and/or on the basis of need. Financial need documentation is required.
Scholarship applications, with all requirements completed, must be submitted via the U.S. Postal Service mail and received no later than Saturday, March 17, 2012. Applications may be downloaded at www.ctba.org.
