East Hampton Postpones Start of School for One Week

First day of school is now Sept. 6.

Due to the widespread power outage in the wake of Hurricane Irene, the opening of schools in East Hampton has been postponed for one week.

School officials could not be reached for comment.

East Hampton was to begin school on Tuesday. The first day of school now will be Sept. 6.

In the interim, the high school will be a location for residents to shower, get water and recharge their cell phones and laptops. The school will be open till 6 p.m. on Monday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
