Constitution Week
Continuing an over fifty year tradition, the Wadsworth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be celebrating Constitution Week by placing Constitution Week materials in local libraries. In 1955, members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned for the recognition of this week as National Constitution Week. Public Law 915, signed by President Dwight Eisenhower on August 2, 1956 made the celebration official. It also promoted three fold goals for the celebration: (1) to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution, preserving it for posterity; (2) to inform the people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life; and (3) to encourage the study of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787. Please stop by and learn more about this special week.
