Schools

It's White, It's Heavy, Schools are Closed, but the Power's Still On - For Most of Us

Due to the heavy snowfall overnight, schools in East Haddam and RSD17 are closed on Friday.

A snowstorm blanketed the area last night, closing schools in both East Hampton and Portland.

As of early morning, CT Light and Power is reporting that only 13 of its customers are without power in Portland. In East Hampton, as of 9 a.m., there were no reported power outages.

The snow is expected to continue throughout the day, mixing with rain later in the day and adding another possible 1 to 3 inches to the current snowfall totals. Forecasters are saying the sun will reappear for the weekend and temperatures are expected to head up to 50 degrees.

The region was just beginning to see the ground again after warmer temps thawed a lot of the snow that got dumped on the region during last month's blizzard.
