Roof Repair on Memorial School Nearly Complete

East Hampton school official said roof repair project expected to come in under budget.

The replacement of the roof on in East Hampton is nearly done, just in time for the start of school.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Kevin Reich told the Board of Education on Monday that the project is 95 percent complete, and most of the work should be finished by the Tuesday start date.

Construction on the shortly after school ended. School officials delayed the start of school until after Labor Day so the project could be finished.

In another piece of fiscal good news, Reich noted that the project is coming in under budget. The bond for the 88,000-square-foot roof construction was bid at $2.89 million and the construction project was awarded to Manchester-based Silktown Roofing for $2.58 million, Reich said.

Reich also praised Silktown, working from 6 a.m. all the way into the evening hours, with 35 people working at once.

“I’ve never worked for a company that has been so responsive,” he told the board. “They came when they said they said, they did what they said and they came in under budget.”
