Bellringers Improve to 4-0 on the Season

Score 16 in fifth inning to rout Hyde.

One would think that winning by 18 runs would leave the victorious coach in a positive frame of mind.

That wasn't so for East Hampton on Wednesday.

The Bellringers remained undefeated with a 22-4 pounding of Hyde in New Haven on Wednesday but coach Scott Wosleger wasn't exactly thrilled by his team's effort.

"We were very sloppy defensively and that has to get better," he said. "Plays we have to make."

East Hampton broke open a close game with a 16-run fifth inning. The Bellringers finished with 12 hits with Nate Heroux going 3-for-3 and two RBI and Marvin Gorgas 2-for-4 and two RBI.

"Thankfully we hit," Wosleger said. "We had some solid at-bats. Guys didn't try to do too much."

The Bellringers also had a little help from Hyde, which committed six errors.

However it was the four errors his team had that contributed to Wosleger feeling the way he did.

"We didn't panic when it got close," he said. "That's a good thing. But our defense was not good. Better teams will take advantage of that. We have an immense amount of work to do on the defensive side."

Matt Sevigny pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win in his first varsity start on the mound. Gorgas and Zac Harrington each pitched two innings of relief before the game was called because of darkness. It was the 14th consecutive victory for the Bellringers.

East Hampton (4-0) will travel to Putnam (1-2) for a game on Thursday. It will be the fourth time in five games this season the Bellringers will have played on the road. They have three games next week at home.
