'Donnie Baseball' Author Visits Rocky Hill Tuesday Night

Baseball discussion to be held at the Community Center.

Baseball will be the topic of discussion Tuesday night as the author of "Donnie Baseball: The Definitive Biography of Don Mattingly" comes to the .

Mike Shalin, who is a former beat writer for the Red Sox and Yankees, will discuss everything from his book to the greatest rivalry in sports to baseball in general.

“He has lots of different things to talk about,” Assistant Director Carole Fisher said.

Fishers expects an “entertaining and lively discussion” with "lots of information" being provided just in time for the Major League Baseball playoff push. She said Mattingly was one of the “most loved baseball players” and has been called “(Derek) Jeter without the ring.”

Shalin also has served as an official scorer at Fenway Park and has been a Baseball Hall of Fame voter since 1989. He is currently freelance writer in the Boston area.

The event, which is being hosted by the , will be from 6:30-8p.m. at the room 2. The event was moved from the library to the because of the construction on the front steps.

The "Donnie Baseball: The Definitive Biography of Don Mattingly" book will be available for purchase at the event.
