East Hampton Girls' Volleyball Improves to 12-2

Defeats North Branford in Dig Pink game.

The East Hampton girls’ volleyball team did what they have been doing a lot of this season. Winning matches in straight sets.

That was the case Monday, as the Bellringers defeated North Branford 25-13, 25-8 and 25-14 at home.

One could have forgiven East Hampton had they struggled, perhaps lost a set, what with Haddam-Killingworth coming up on Wednesday, which is not only Senior Night, but a match that could determine second place in the Shoreline Conference. Also, the girls were forced to keep busy because North Branford was late arriving, causing a one-hour delay in the start of the match.

In the end, none of it mattered as the Bellringers improved to 12-2.

“It’s one of those games in terms of focus, especially with the long wait,” coach John Post said. “We started off a little sluggish, but we picked it up as the game went on. It was a good win for us.”

East Hampton was led by Ashley Chasse with nine digs and Marissa Morassini, who had 18 assists and nine aces. Julianne Toce and Shayla Belanger had six and five kills respectively.

A struggling North Branford (1-13) allowed Post to try some different lineups in case the need for them arises down the road.

“We tried to do things today, some different lineups to see how they would work, how we looked. We got a chance to try those out,” he said. “A game like that is a good time to test those in case we need them later in the season."

East Hampton also traded in its usual shirts for pink ones in a show of support for the fight against breast cancer awareness. Donations raised during the game went to Dig Pink.

Senior Night against Haddam-Killingworth on Wednesday is at 5:30 p.m. This will be the final regular season home game.
