"Spring into the Garden" event hosted by the Connecticut Horticultural Society

Dust the snow off your gardening dreams and prepare for a new season  in the garden by attending the Connecticut Horticultural Society's "Spring into the Garden" symposium Feb. 4 in Portland.

The keynote speaker at the day-long event designed to provide gardeners with ideas and inspiration is renowned plantsman Tony Avent of Raleigh, N.C. Avent will give two talks, one on new and exciting perennials, the other on planting in "drifts of one," which is sure to appeal to any gardener who can't resist adding plants to the garden, even if only one at a time.

The other speakers are perennial plant diva Kerry Ann Mendez of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., who will discuss "cool and outrageous" foliage plants for the shade garden, and garden-design and -travel consultant Nan Sinton of South Dartmouth, Mass. Sinton will help people find the hidden gardens in their own backyards.
