Shoreline Boys' Soccer Notebook and Standings

East Hampton at Old Lyme highlights final week of season.

With the boys' soccer regular season winding down, there remains much to be decided in the final week.

What is known is that East Hampton, Valley Regional and Old Lyme have clinched spots in the Shoreline Conference tournament. Currently, those schools are also the top three ranked teams in Class S. The Shoreline has placed one school in the Class S final and two in the semifinals each year since 2005.

What is at stake on Monday is first place in the conference and, at least for now, the No. 1 ranking in Class S when East Hampton travels to play Old Lyme. A victory by the Bellringers will all but clinch first place in the Shoreline and the top ranking in Class S. East Hampton, which at 13-1 has the same record as Valley, wins any tiebreaker with the Warriors by virtue of its 2-1 victory on Sept. 24, the only time the two met this season. A loss by the Bellringers will leave them third in the conference because they will have lost twice to the Wild Cats, the other by a 3-1 score on Sept. 21. It also will probably mean having to return to Old Lyme for the conference tournament semifinals.

Fourth place also is up for grabs, with Portland having the inside track. The Highlanders' biggest challenge will be at Old Saybrook on Thursday. A loss will open the door for Haddam-Killingworth, but the Cougars also have a tough game on Thursday, playing at Morgan. Those two played to a 2-2 draw earlier this season while Portland defeated Old Saybrook, 5-2.

Speaking of Morgan, they can secure a spot in the Class S tournament with a victory Monday against visiting North Branford.
