The End of the Heat Wave is in Sight!

Temperatures are expected to drop this weekend in East Hampton and Portland after heavy rains, according to the National Weather Service.

After a brutal heat wave that threatened to set record drains on the state’s power supply, it looks like relief is finally in sight.

This weekend is poised to see dropping temperatures after heavy rains this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.  With the heat topping out around 95 degrees, temperatures should drop into the low 80’s beginning Sunday.

Here’s a hopeful look forward to this weekend’s forecast:

Friday:  High 94.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Low 73.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: High 90.  Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Low 68.  Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: High 83.  Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

Sunday Night: Low 61.  Partly cloudy, with a low around 61.

Monday: High 81.  Partly sunny, with a high near 81.
