Benefit Poker Ride is Saturday

The event will benefit the Connecticut Veterans Organization and CHAMP.

The Kenny Fletcher Benefit Poker Ride will be held on Saturday.

Kenny Fletcher, who passed away in April, was an Army Veteran who served during the Gulf War in 1991 and in the Iraq war. Kenny was a tremendous individual who, for his whole life, put the needs of others ahead of himself.

The ride will start at VFW Post 5095, 20 N. Maple St., in East Hampton. All motorcycles and hot rods are welcome to participate. The fee is $25 per bike/car and $10 per passenger. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Come down for a great ride, great food, music and friends. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Connecticut Veterans Organization and CHAMP (Citizens Helping Active Military Personnel) in Kenny's memory.

The Connecticut Veterans Organization's mission is to provide employment, housing and government benefits assistance at no cost, to all former active duty members to ease their way into civilian life.   They help all veterans from those who are just coming off active duty to those who have been out for decades.

CHAMP was formed in May of 2005 by members of the Fowler-Dix-Park Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5095 and its Ladies Auxiliary, Anchor Masonic Lodge 112 and Boy Scout Troop 8. Each month, the group meets and sends care packages to servicemen and servicewomen from East Hampton, Marlborough, Cobalt and Middle Haddam. CHAMP’s mission is to send cheer, goodwill and hopefully, a little piece of home to our soldiers during their deployment.
