Bethlehem Lutheran Church to Hold Food Packaging Event

How you can help with the packaging of 5,000 meals that will go to local food banks.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be holding a Kids Care food packaging event on Sunday, April 15. Working with Outreach, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) located in Union, Iowa, they hope to pack as many as 5,000 meals which will go to local food banks to help feed the estimated 10 percent of “food insecure” people in the area.

The Outreach mission is to provide safe water, food, medical care and education to children and those in need at home and abroad.  Kids Care food packages reverse the starvation process, help restore health, and improve a child’s mental and physical alertness. The team for Kids Care, in association with internationally recognized nutritionists, developed a food formula comprised of rice, fortified soy protein, vegetables and essential vitamins and minerals. Each package provides six nutritionally complete servings to feed the hungry here at home, all for the low cost of 25 cents per serving - that means a donation of just $10 would feed 40 people!

The public is encouraged to come, roll up their sleeves and enjoy this hands-on opportunity to help. Packaging will begin following worship at approximately 12 noon and all ages are welcome to participate. Meals of rice casserole, bean and rice or macaroni and cheese will be packaged, sealed and readied for delivery locally. Participants are deeply changed by spending just a few hours to help feed those in need.

Bethlehem is fund raising and looking for donations to pay for product expenses. If you wish to donate, please mail donations made payable to “Outreach” to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 31, East Hampton, CT 06424. Online donations may be made at www.outreachprogram.org by clicking on the “donate” link. All donations are tax deductible.
