Portland Food Bank Needs Fresh Fruit, Veggies

Editor’s Note: It’s the holiday season and for many, that means something more than finding the perfect gift or going to parties. For social service groups or charities, it’s the time when they reach out for that extra bit of help. Over the next several weeks Patch will profile some of the charitable groups working in your towns and tell you what they need.

WHO THEY ARE:

Run by volunteers out of the basement of the Portland Senior Center on Waverly Avenue, the offers food, clothing and toys to the area’s needy. The food bank is open Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon and is closed the rest of the week.

WHAT THEY NEED:

The food bank this holiday season will be putting  together 125 food baskets for local families and is in particular need of fresh vegetables and fruits for the baskets, as well as holiday candy.
