The third person involved in a Naugatuck woman's scheme to defraud Webster Bank nearly $6.2 million was sentenced Tuesday, and was also ordered to pay back millions of dollars in restitution.
The ex-husband of convicted Naugatuck woman, who defrauded Webster Bank over $6 million, was sentenced on May 1 in federal court to 12 months in prison for partaking in his ex-wife’s financial scam. Apart from serving the one-year jail sentence, Kevin W. Caffrey, 47, of Wolcott, will also be subjected to three years of supervised release for his role in Susan Curtis’ scheme of stealing funds from the bank and funneling them into fake LLCs. Judge Janet C. Hall also ordered that Caffrey pay roughly $4.3 million in restitution to Webster Bank, as well as $110,256 in back taxes to the federal government. Better buckle up--Connecticut State Police will be promoting seat belt safety next week, according to WTNH. The national "Click It or Ticket" campaign will be enforced beginning May 21 and running through Memorial Day weekend to June 3. In critical condition after being trapped under equipment.
A maintenance worker at Portland Golf Course is in critical condition Thursday afternoon after becoming trapped under an overturned piece of equipment. The man, whose identity was not released, was freed under a Cushman Turf-Truckster, a powered industrial truck that was being used to spray crabgrass control chemicals, after the early-morning accident, police said. The worker was treated at the scene by Portland fire personnel, Hunter's Ambulance and Middletown Hospital paramedics. According to police, the worker sustained serious injuries and was first taken to Middlesex Hospital before being transferred to Hartford Hospital wher he is listed in critical condition. East Hampton Middle School teacher to be sentenced on July 31.
The sentencing of Richard D. Hendricks, formerly employed as a computer teacher at East Hampton Middle School, has been rescheduled for July 31 at 9 a.m. at the United States Court House, 141 Church St., in New Haven. Sentencing had originally been scheduled for Tuesday. Hendricks, who also was the Yearbook Advisor at the school, pleaded guilty on Jan. 19 before Senior United States District Judge Ellen Breen Burns in New Haven to one count of receipt of child pornography stemming from his arrest on June 8, 2011. East Hampton Police Officer has discipline reduced.
East Hampton Police Officer Hardie Burgin has been cleared of conduct unbecoming during an internal affairs investigation and has had his discipline reduced as a result. Burgin was suspended 20 days for neglect of duty and conduct unbecoming of an officer in a disciplinary report administered by Police Chief Matt Reimondo dated Nov. 22. The charges stemmed from a burglary investigation that was determined to have taken too long to close and Burgin allegedly lying during the internal affairs investigation that followed. The annual New England Regional Chili Cook Off in Somers this weekend is expected to draw quite a crowd.
The annual New England Regional Chili Cook Off will be held on Saturday and Sunday — rain or shine — from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Pleasant View Golf Center grounds. The cost of admission is $6 and two canned goods, or $7 without the canned goods. Admission is free for “kids” over 70 and under five. More than 10,000 visitors are expected each day.
