Resident is one of four winners of The Wethersfield-Rocky Hill Professional Nurses Association awards.
The Wethersfield-Rocky Hill Professional Nurses Association (WRHPNA) awarded four scholarships to area nursing students at its annual meeting on May 9 in Wethersfield. The four 2012 scholarships were awarded to: Melissa Edgerly of Middletown, a senior nursing student at Southern Connecticut State University; Rocca Perruccio of Portland, a registered nurse student at Central Connecticut State University; Paulina Gorecki of New Britain and Christie Petrossi of Berlin, both senior nursing students at UConn School of Nursing. Quinnipiac University conferred 878 degrees during two separate ceremonies Sunday at the TD Bank Sports Center. At a 10 a.m. ceremony, Quinnipiac conferred 727 graduate degrees to students in the schools of business, communications, education, health sciences, nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences. Bill Strickland, president and CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corp., addressed the students and received an honorary degree. At 3 p.m. The Hon. Lubbie Harper, Jr., a Connecticut Supreme Court justice, addressed the 151 students who graduated from the Quinnipiac University School of Law. Harper also received an honorary degree. Second annual event a good night for all.
The Portland High School Student Senate held the second annual "Senior Ball" on Wednesday, May 2. The dinner dance was held for the senior citizens of the town of Portland. Student Senate Adviser Charlie Ryan and members of Student Senate prepared a restaurant-style meal complete with home-made bread and dessert. As the guests arrived they were greeted by Senate members and given a beautiful corsage made by the Portland High School Garden Club. After dinner, DJ, Senior Student Senate member Mike Tully, played music as Senate members and seniors danced the night away. They were selected to become a part of the society based on their academic achievement and success as leaders in service and fellowship on campus. Commencement for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the largest college at UConn, was divided into two ceremonies Sunday at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
Thousands of family and friends watched on Sunday afternoon as nearly 2,700 students from the University of Connecticut’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) became UConn graduates during commencement ceremonies at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. Representing 55 different majors from 23 departments, students received their diplomas in dual ceremonies Sunday in disciplines ranging from journalism, psychology and political science to communications, human development and family studies. Students were addressed by Cindy Luo, a graduating senior from Madison, a dual-degree student with majors in linguistics and philosophy, classics and ancient Mediterranean studies and English.
