The Chatham Party won four seats to take control of the East Hampton Town Council on Tuesday night. Sue Weintraub, the only Chatham Party candidate on the previous council, was the top vote-getter with 1,475. "I'd like to thank the people of East Hampton for their confidence and trust. What took place tonight was extraordinary," Weintraub said. "They're saying what they want. Very clearly. They want us to take politics out of town governance. They want us to lead this town forward, and that's what we're going to do." In all, the Chatham Party won eight seats, including two on the board of finance and two on the board of education. "For an independent party, this was absolutely fantastic," said Kyle Dostaler, who returns to the council …
Democrats retain majority on the Board of Selectmen.
Portland Democrats retained control of the Board of Selectmen for the next two years, with Susan Bransfield winning a fifth term as First Selectman on Tuesday night. Three Democrats were re-elected to the board. They were Brian Flood, Mark Finkelstein and Kathleen Richards. Fred Knous, who was tapped to fill a seat that was vacated in August, won a full term. Bransfield garnered 1,465 votes to defeat Republican Don Bascom, who tallied 683 votes. Third-party candidate Lambros Lambrinides came in third with 114 votes. Democrats also easily retained their majority on the board of selectmen. Republicans won two seats. Carl Chadzuk won a third term and Ryan Curley won in his first try. The board of selectmen will have five Democrats and two …

Update 4 p.m.: Voter turnout has been mixed in Portland East Hampton. "The turnout I think is probably average," Portland First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield said. "Early in the morning they were probably running similar to what they do for other local elections. I think the turnout has been good, the weather has been on our side, it's just a fantastic day." Bransfield, a Democrat who is being opposed by Republican Don Bascom and Lambros Lambrinides of the American Independence Party, is seeking her fifth term. "I'm feeling positive," she said. "We're optimistic and know that we have run a good administration for eight years and we hope that people agree and we're able to continue for eight more years." In East Hampton, turnout was about 1,…

'I pride myself on achieving, and we have achieved quite a bit.'
Portland First Selectman Susan Bransfield believes she has a good case to make to voters as they decide whether the Democrat deserves a fifth term. “I pride myself on achieving, and we have achieved quite a bit,” Bransfield said. "And I feel that I still have quite a bit to contribute.” Bransfield said taxes have remained “very stable” during her time in office, while town services were preserved. Also, the first selectman said town crews and departments are sound, and infrastructure has improved. Bransfield pointed out that certain infrastructure work made it possible for Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park — “a major employer and a supplier of revenue to the town” — to open. The first selectman went on to tout Portland’s “excellent” …

You can get historic voting data on the Secretary of the State's website dating back to 1922.
Want to know how your town voted in Connecticut’s 1922 gubernatorial election, or even who ran in that race? How about whether your county voted for Nixon or Kennedy in the historic 1960 presidential election, or how the state as a whole voted? Those are just two examples of a long list of voting statistics, historic and recent, that you can get on the Secretary of the State’s Statement of Vote page. Since 1922 the Secretary of the State’s office has compiled and published statewide election results every two years for state and district offices, including president. According to the secretary’s website the statement of vote includes returns for state officers (governor, lieutenant Governor, secretary of the state, treasurer, comptroller …

Spokesman says there are no requests anywhere in the state to reschedule; making a change would require a court order.
Rumors have been swirling throughout Connecticut — even in communities that never lost power — that Election Day would be rescheduled from Tuesday, Nov. 8, because of the remaining electricity outages caused by the October snowstorm. This is not true, according to Av Harris, spokesman for the Secretary of the State's office. "We have had zero requests from any community to postone" Election Day, Harris said Friday afternoon. Harris said the Secretary of the State's office has been in close communication with registrars of voters throughout Connecticut via a series of conference calls. Additionally, Harris said, because Election Day is part of state law ("the Tuesday after the first Monday of November," according to the statute), to change …

A Positive Vote On November 8th you will cast your votes and East Hampton will begin a new journey with new leaders. I’m eager and excited at the prospect of a new day and a bright future for East Hampton. You have a variety of choices and an important decision to make. As a candidate for Town Council, of course I want your support and vote on Tuesday, but I’m also a voter and I too have choices to make. I’m looking for positive candidates, ones who will work hard, and who will work together. I’ll be supporting the candidates I think have the heart and the spirit of cooperation and bi-partisanship, because I believe these are the traits that will bring us out of the storm we’ve been in for the past year. There are many very dedicated …

I am honored to be a candidate for the East Hampton Board of Education this November. As a lifelong resident and proud alumnus of East Hampton High School (EHHS) I am eager to serve our schools in return for the quality education provided to our family for four generations. After graduating from EHHS I received a BSBA degree from Georgetown University then worked at Aetna for 10 years. While raising my family I was hired by the East Hampton school district as a mathematics paraprofessional for 10 years. During that time I continued my education and became a certified secondary mathematics teacher. I earned my Masters from Central Connecticut State University and have been teaching mathematics at Bacon Academy in Colchester for the past …

I would like to take this time to introduce myself to you. My name is Carol Williams and I am running for the Board of Education in East Hampton as a member of the Democratic Party. I have lived in town for 20 years and love our town. I am so thankful to have raised my two children in such a caring town where neighbors help neighbors and people look out for each other. Both of my children have done extremely well in the East Hampton school system. My son is currently attending UConn and my daughter is a senior in the high school. I am grateful to the outstanding education that they both received and I feel they are prepared to face the challenges that come after graduation. I have taught in South Windsor for 16 years as an elementary …

What I Stand For I am proud to be a candidate for the Board of Finance with the Chatham Party. My goal is to contribute my skills as a successful business woman and communications professional to improve the budget process, stop wasteful spending and deliver greater value for taxpayers. Since moving to EH in 1998 with my husband, I have been actively involved in our community. I was a member and past President of the EH Junior Women’s Club. After being trained by the Study Circles, I served as a facilitator with the Chatham Roundtables. I have volunteered to work at the polls for budget referenda and elections. I also was a member and past Chairwoman of the Economic Development Commission, and currently serve as a member of the Brownfield …

I have met this fine lady personally and she really IS as nice as she seems! I haven't lived in Portland for over forty years but still consider it my "hometown". When I go back for a visit it seems like a time-warp. Change does come however slowly. I think Mrs Bransfield is doing a great job and I'm not usually a fan of politicians!   more ›
