The town is looking for a volunteer member of a new regional agriculture council.

East Hampton is home to about 1,300 acres of farmland:  horse farms, small vegetable farms and tree farms.

East Hampton is looking for volunteers to serve on a new regional agriculture council, with applications due by the end of the month.

The agriculture council was established in March of this year by the Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments in order to promote agriculture-friendly land use and local government policies.

The panel would ideally serve as a “conduit” between farmers and local boards and commissions, helping to guide land use regulations and local agriculture taxes, according to officials.

In addition to an East Hampton representative, River COG is looking for representatives from Cromwell, Clinton, Essex, Deep River, Middletown, Middlefield and Lyme.
